What is a Doula
Doulas are professional labor coaches who provide emotional, physical, and informational support to women during labor and delivery. They are not medical professionals, but they serve a vital role in providing non-medical assistance to mothers. Studies have shown that having a doula present during delivery can reduce the likelihood of a cesarean section. Doulas can provide emotional support by reassuring the mother that she is capable of giving birth and that she is doing a great job. They also provide physical support by using massage and other comfort measures to help the mother relax and cope with labor pain. Doulas can also help the mother to make informed decisions about her labor and delivery. They can provide information about different birthing options, pain management techniques, and the medical procedures associated with labor and delivery. By helping the mother to make decisions that are right for her, a doula can reduce the chance of a cesarean section and help the mother to have a positive birth experience.
